After all the hulaballoo we made over funding this project, it seems almost anticlimactic to start posting normal old chapters - I feel like it should be ten times more spectacular than any novel could possibly be, the written equivalent of a firework storm of detonating orgasms.  And yet, here it is: Chapter One of The Golden Mask.

Constructing first chapters is a skill no writer ever gets complacent about - not if they are smart.  An opening chapter has to do a lot of things at once.  You have to introduce characters, set up conflicts, and still have something actually happening so the chapter is not just a big pile of backstory and internal monologue.  It's bad enough if you are working in the "real" world, and can assume a great deal of knowledge on the part of your readers.  If you are doing sci-fi, fantasy, even historical fiction, you have to transport readers to your new world in a way that makes sense and yet does not overload them with information - and you have to do this at the same time you are doing all the normal things an opening chapter has to do.  So a first chapter is probably the most carefully constructed of any chapter you are likely to encounter in any work.  In a novel, you have a lot of room, and sometimes you can afford to stand back and throw paint at the wall, but not out of the gate.

NOTE ON SUBSCRIPTIONS.  If you are a new subscriber and you can't get in to read the main content, please sign up an account before you contact us - just go through the process up to where it asks you to pay and then email us at adventuroticaATgmailDOTcom and let us know you are one of our contributors and what email you used both for the Indiegogo donation and (if different) to sign in.  With that info we can easily activate your subscription and you will be in like Flynn.  If you have a problem signing in, first make sure you have any script blockers allowing our page (we've had problems with that in the past) and if you still can't get in, contact us and we'll get it fixed asap.  Bear in mind the first few weeks of TGM will be crossposted to our FREE area, so you'll still be able to read.

So here it is: the last bonus scene from Heritage Of Steel, and the last bit of that story, ironically going back to the beginning - the first fateful interactions of Doctor Havoc and Lady Steel, from battlefield to bedroom.  I had fun writing it, and in fact I put the last polish on it today.

In case you hadn't seen, we made our goal, and funding on The Golden Mask now stands at 102%, with 48 hours still left to go.  We still have a lot of cool stuff unclaimed, including original artwork, and I hope we can keep going and beat our goal by a bigger margin.  So even though we have made our goal, we still have a few more days left to pimp and boost.  So: once more into the breach - share the link!  HERE

Things will be quiet here for a bit, as I elected to post the extra-long bonus scene in one piece rather than break it up, so there will be no post on Friday, and Naamah and I are going to take some much-needed rest over the weekend.  On Monday we'll begin posting The Golden Mask for all of you who have a website subscription.

A word on that, as we're adding new people.  If you already have an account with us you don't have to do anything - we'll just be setting up your account with the extended expiration through January.  If you are new here then all you have to do is sign up an account here and we will set the subscription up for you - you don't need to pay or do anything else.  If you sign up with an email different from the one you used when you donated on Indiegogo, then you will want to message us at adventuroticaATgmailDOTcom and let us know so we can make sure you get activated.

If you have any problems, please email us, and we'll do everything we can to make sure it gets solved.  Adventure awaits on Monday the 8th!

Well, this is it, folks, the final stretch of our funding drive, four more days until we are done.  If you have not yet joined up, we are getting down to the wire, and if you have, there is still time to upgrade your perk and get something even cooler.  We are 92% Funded and counting, and I am really, finally optimistic that we can make goal or pass it.  Hell, we're only $270 from the finish line.  If somebody buys the original art perk, that will do it right there.  I'm excited that we've been able to do so well, excited about the progress on the book so far, and excited that this is almost over.  I had no idea this would be so tiring.

Every dollar counts to us at this point, and yes, we will be spending the next few days being really annoying as we harp and harp on this.  I'm sorry about that, but this is money to keep us alive, and we will need every penny.  Apparently, I ain't too proud to beg.
